Composer, guitarist and vocalist Ian Faquini and flutist/ vocalist Rebecca Kleinmann are long-time friends and have been working together since Rebecca moved to the Bay area in 2009. They released their first album together “Brasiliense” in 2014 featuring all original music by Faquini. Ian utilizes a wide range of Brazilian rhythms and grooves while grasping strong melodic and harmonic influences from composers such as Guinga, Gershwin, Bach, Ravel, Duke Ellington and Tom Jobim. Ian’s brilliant guitar playing is natural, rooted in Brazilian rhythms and Jazz, and genuine. Rebecca uses a lush tone palate to interpret Ian’s melodies in story telling fashion and improvises fluidly through the rich chord changes.
Enjoy the beautiful compositions of brilliant Brazilian guitarist Ian Faquini in our new flute and guitar duo album! It is such a joy to play this great music. I know this is just the beginning, too, as Ian is constantly writing new music. Our official release party was September 13th at the Jazz Conservatory, Berkeley, CA. Thank you Jeff Cressman for the wonderful sound recording and mixing! We recorded live in one room on three dates in April 2014 at Cressman Studios in San Francisco. The album art work includes photos by Ian’s grandfather Rui Faquini, and a painting (above) by Calvin Lai. We’re looking forward to sharing this music with you and hope you enjoy the album!
