Teaching

Rebecca Kleinmann, Music Educator

I have 20 years experience as a private flute teacher, and over ten years teaching music in schools including teaching for the Oakland Youth Chorus, Escuela Bilingüe Internacional, Music for Minors, Tehiyah Day School and the Community Music Center. I have undergraduate degrees in Flute, Jazz Studies and Spanish from Indiana University School of Music and am Orff Level 2 certified via the San Francisco Orff School as well as a graduate of Orff Afrique in Ghana.

I teach from my home studio in North Oakland in the Temescal neighborhood and Piedmont Piano in downtown Oakland and currently have room for 5 new flute or voice students. Lessons focus on developing tone, technique, reading, repertoire, ear training, improvisation, and preparing music in various genres including Classical, Jazz and Brazilian Music. I let students help choose the stylistic direction of their lessons, while always giving them a solid technical and musical foundation.

Lessons include flute all levels, beginning to intermediate vocal lessons and can include basic piano and theory as well. All ages are welcome! My current studio ranges from ages 6 – 64.  I hold two or three recitals per year featuring all my students.  Excellent references and/or my teaching resume can be sent upon request.
